It is claimed that wine matures best in large formats due to the smaller ratio of air to wine in the bottle. Many great dinners and tastings serve only magnums. But you will need to have a very sharp palate to be able to taste the difference.
"The superb second wine of Chateau Leoville Las Cases, the 2005 Clos du Marquis, reflects the utter brilliance of the 2005 grand vin. The Clos du Marquis is dense, chewy, fleshy, and full-bodied. It is a beauty." Robert Parker
"One of my favourites. The 83 exuded elegance and charm even in cask. Fully mature, an easy style of wine with tannin that needed food the tannin merely serves to refresh, leave the mouth clean and dry an aid to digestion. That is what good claret is for." Michael Broadbent MW 4 star
"Very good colour. Lovely aromatic essentially Cabernet fruit. This has real concentration and very high quality. Fullish, balanced and fine." Clive Coates MW
"A strong effort for Talbot, the 2005 is more showy and forward than most wines of this vintage. This fleshy, medium to full-bodied St.-Julien exhibits a silky sweetness to its texture and tannins." Robert Parker
"Still fairly deep; ripe, mature, immediately forthcoming bouquet; sweet, flavoury, charming, and with a lovely aftertaste, a pointe." Michael Broadbent MW
"Solid colour. Absolute classic Pauillac power which leaps from the glass. Superb spice and weight, power and intensity. Lovely cedar spiciness and grippy, drying tannins. This has the lot (value $450 estimate for 750ml bottle)." 2007 Sydney trade tasting (rating 96)
