Lovely, gracious, fully mature wine. It shows the hot 1989 vintage of very ripe fruit, exotic Asian spices, stewed plums and leather. Good balance and length and a delicious, rather heady mature wine.

"Fullish, mature colour. Ripe, opulent, mellow classy nose. Fullish with good grip. Rather more developed and spicy than most Latours. Very fine." Clive Coates MW

"Very viscous, thick, juicy flavours are succulent, full-bodied, and very sweet and expansive. This exuberant but slightly more structured vintage than the 1990 seems to have only great things ahead of it." Robert Parker

'Rich, ruby-garnet with brick tinges. Rich, exotic nose. Expressive dried fruit and opulent earthy spices – nutmeg and cardamom. Very complex. Lots of very finely interlocked layers. Roasted herbs and meats. Silky, yet firm with exceptionally long grip and persistence. Most aristocratic as great Pauillac can be.' 2005 Melbourne sommelier
