2000 VINTAGE

2004 tasting. An immense wine with intense cassis, sandalwood and spice nose. Magnificently deep and profound. The fruit very much in evidence on the palate with blackcurrant notes and a soft, velvety texture underpinned by a fine, ripe tannic support.
92 2007 tasting. Very deep, full to the rim. Muted yet sumptuous plummy nose. Svelte, sweet, medium-bodied, with intensity rather than power; fine acid keeps it fresh and lively.Still rather tight and not showing much complexity, but it is well structured and has a long way to go. Good length.
92 Dark crimson. Surprisingly low-key nose. Actually, it is almost Lafite like in its low-key raciness. Not at all the dense mode of Cos. Dry finish but not too concentrated. Very appetising and quite racy and ethereal. Interesting. Obviously here for the long term even if not with enormous ripeness and mass.

"A famed estate that produced excellent wines in the 80’s and up to 1996; many of which were of 1st growth quality. 1997 to 2000 have been off form although 2001 sees it back to its best." Robert Parker

"Cos is arguably the best wine of the commune, though not typically St Estephe in style. It is full but very lush and fruity, even exotic, but splendidly balanced. One cannot deny its precision and intensity."
Clive Coates, Master of Wine
