"the 2009 may turn out to be the best they have ever made. This inky purple-colored wine offers up notes of creme de cassis, spring flowers, and forest floor that seem to have more in common with a classified growth than a petite chateau. Medium-bodied, luscious, and rich, this is a beauty" Robert Parker

2009 VINTAGE

88-90 This has been one of the most reliable wines in Bordeaux over the last 30+ years, and I have enjoyed many vintages of it. It sells for a song, and the 2009 may turn out to be the best they have ever made. This inky purple-colored wine offers up notes of creme de cassis, spring flowers, and forest floor that seem to have more in common with a classified growth than a petite chateau. Medium-bodied, luscious, and rich, this is a beauty to drink over the next 10 years.
Good plummy cassis Médoc, good succulent fruit, good future. Drink 2012-16. (15.5 points)
16 45% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot. Ripe black fruit and a light savoury note. Firm but nicely complete in the balance of fruit and tannin/acid structure. - Jancis Robinson
Grape Observer   From the stellar 2009 vintage, this wine is a medium to pronounced intensity ruby colour, and is a blend of 45% cabernet sauvignon, 45% merlot, 5% petit verdot and 5% malbec. Its aroma is quite classic - a medium intensity expression of blackcurrants and cedar, perhaps with a more primary fruit character than is usual for a left bank Bordeaux - reflecting presumably the ripe vintage. On the palate, this is a balanced wine - medium (fine grained) tannins (perhaps even slightly more tannic than this), medium length, cloves, cedar and again blackcurrants feature. It appears built to last a few years, so I would perhaps give this another three to five years before starting to drink it. Very good overall, in a classic left bank Bordeaux kind of way. - Grape Observer

‘La Tour St Bonnet has always been one of my favourite Cru Bourgeois. The wine is deeply coloured, firm, tannic, full-bodied with surprising concentration. Most vintages need 3-4 years to shed their tannin.' Robert Parker

Chateau Tour St Bonnet enjoys a superb location on a gravel ridge overlooking the river. The owner Jacques Merlet is not a fan of new oak and the vanilla character it imparts in wines and hence Tour St Bonnet is matured for 18 months in large oak foudres.
