Pauillac de Château Latour was first launched in 1973, but it was subsequently only released for the 1974 and 1987 vintages. Pin It

Pauillac de Château Latour was first launched in 1973, but it was subsequently only released for the 1974 and 1987 vintages. Since the 1990 vintage, Pauillac has been made every year, both from vats that do not quite meet the strict selection criteria for Les Forts de Latour, and also from the young vines of the Property.

This distinguished and delicious wine is a very welcome introduction to the family of wines produced at Château Latour. The vines selected for Pauillac have to meet the same requirements as any other plot of the Property and therefore are subjected to the same level of care as the rest of the vineyard through the year.

In the vat room, vinification tends towards a more gourmand style of wine. Whilst still respecting the renowned tannic structure of both the appellation and the Property, we work to reveal the fruit and bring fullness to the wine as well. In keeping with this, Merlot tends to play a more prominent role in the blend and more press wines are used in order to enhance the fruit without compromising texture.

The malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats before maturation in barrels of which approximately 10% are new. Pauillac de Château Latour is generally aged in barrel for a period of 16 months.  Pauillac de Château Latour is born a fleshier and more accessible wine than its two siblings but it will benefit just as much from being held for several years.

Wine Advocate 88 The generic 2012 Pauillac de Latour has consistently been one of the best-buy wines from the Latour stable for a number of years, and the 2012 comes across well. Deep ruby/purple with notes of minerality woven with blackcurrant fruit, it is medium-bodied, pure, elegant and best drunk over the next 10-12 years. Drink 2015 -2027.
